Collections Research Projects

With our Collections Research Projects we work with researchers at every level. This includes our in-house specialists to collaborators across the region, the UK, and beyond.

Finds Research

Our research on the collection is grouped into three main themes:

  • Finds Research – Investigating artefacts to understand their history
  • Osteological Research – Studying human and animal remains to learn about past lives, health and societies
  • Scientific Research – Applying scientific techniques to artefacts, soils and samples to answer archaeological questions.

Many of these projects were made possible with funding from Arts Council England’s Museums Resilience programme (2015–2017). This support allowed us to explore our collections in new and meaningful ways.

Please note that some research projects include images or discussions of archaeological human remains. Viewer discretion is advised.
